Thanks Linda,

As far as my LifeWrecked moniker goes, it's far too late even if I wanted to change it - as you know, it's not the only one I go by, but it's become so deeply entrenched all over the place in my online wanderings, I'm afraid I'd suffer an identity crisis if I changed it now. And actually, though my outlook has certainly improved (and thanks for the vote of confidence!), The "injured" have only just been transported to the ER, the cleanup crews are still picking through rubble for "survivors" and the governor hasn't even declared a state of emergency yet! ;)

I actually have decided to own it (the LifeWrecked moniker - and not vice-versa - it doesn't own me) because I have become a student of the human condition. Find me therefore, one, just one, who doesn't have a "wreck" sometime, somewhere in their lives. I susspect it will be hard, if not impossible. And so, rather than using my moniker to beg for sympathy, I turn it on its head, and strive for *compassion* in all my dealings with my fellow travelers through this crazy thing called life. :)

Peace and Hugs be yours,

Paul,
I'm so glad to see you blogging here, as well as your own 'lifewrecked' blog of course. I'm thinking maybe it's about time to change that name? Somehow, from a distance Paul, your life doesn't seem quite so 'wrecked' anymore?

Congratulations on getting your employer to provide CART, at all. At our con last year, our beloved CART reporter explained to a couple of us how Remote CART worked; in fact, she got up early one day to use the hotel manager's office to provide a Remote CART session for another group, elsewhere. Fascinating, and interesting your explanation about why some types of presentations aren't right for Remote CART. Thanks for taking the time to let us know.

I've yet to request CART for my quarterly training sessions. This past Thursday I had another one which involved breaking into small groups for a short period of time. I couldn't hear a thing and was completely lost during the small group period. I know CART wouldn't work for that no matter what. The rest of the time I did fairly well. The director of the meeting knows I can't hear and stuck near me. She's good about remembering my hearing needs, and asked after the meeting if I had any trouble. I honestly didn't this time, except I couldn't hear questions from the rest of the room. Didn't matter, as it was mostly a bitch session this time. Additionally a coworker takes comprehensive notes for me.

I appreciate your blogging about the REMOTE CART. I have been wondering about that option myself, knowing it's supposed to be cheaper. Do you know how much it cost? I need to work up the courage for requesting it. Like you, if they suggest the remote CART I would give it a shot to begin with, even though your experience was less than satisfactory. It could improve as more and more people use it.

I cannot but agree with both Bill and saytheword. My job isn't perfect (what job is?), but I have the privilage, the pleasure, and the honor of working with some of the best and brightest folks - and that easily compensates for any "deficiencies" in the work environment. The only thing that made me "un-confident" in the system initially was that I wasn't sure my local co-workers would be handling it (if you've ever worked for a multi-national corporation, you'll know of what I speak ).

It turned out that everyone (except the captioner) involved was a "local", and that really helped enormously. These were folks who'd already been used to dealing with my hearing loss, and already valued me as a friend and co-worker - I definitely benefitted from that.
