Kim,

I went through exactly what you did--withdrawing from life, and SWC came to me at a time when I was needing saved from backsliding into Hermitsville. LOL I can imagine how wonderful an SWC convention could be. I had planned to try to attend this year, but my husband's job loss has put a hold on most anything that costs money right now, so I probably won't make the Portland Convention. I hope to read everything you write about the convention this year, as I so enjoyed your posts here and on your own blog.

Sounds like a good time these conventions...enjoy your trip to Portland and make sure to blog about your fun there!

It is good to connect with others who have hearing loss or who are Deaf. I rarely come across anyone who is deaf. Not even at work! I'm sure I'd enjoy being in a room full of people like me...

Kim, I'm not only coming to the Portland con, I'm bringing my husband! Since my family lives in the PNW, this is an opportunity to see them, as well as to see my SWC family! Names become faces, become real people, at the conventions. I can use my limited ASL skills at the conventions, and learn more signs as I go along. People become "real" to me, instead of just being a cyberspace acquaintance. I don't belong to any "local" hearing loss groups as I feel SWC gives me more of a "connection" to other folks with hearing loss. I'm SO looking forward to the Portland convention!

Hugs,
DenverJulie
